You might have to look real close.
The apples, the lilacs,
and the forsythias
have made their claims
against the resistance,
choosing instead
the impending unfolding.
Cold as it is,
they have been busy,
undercover you might say,
preparing for the splendor
of spring.
The buds have been set.
Just wait and see.
Lovely poem and gorgeous photo, Richard. It’s good to see the plants in bud in readiness for Spring. I have a forsythia shrub in my back garden, although it’s not in bud yet, as we’re still in winter here. It does tend to blossom earlier than many plants, though.
Thanks Ellie, the buds being set in a way here in winter, us just the tiny nub if growth a long the branch where eventually things “spring” from.
The growing never stops, just slows down in the winter. You’re right to remind us that the new leaf and blossom is just biding its time.
